He is a religious priest (Scalabrinian - Congregation of St. Charles Scalabrini). I suspect he will be out of his pastorate once Archbp. Dolan comes back from Haiti.

One blogger wrote this:

Father Tonelotto is deeply embarrassed and sorrowful for the turn of events. He has written to the Archbishop Timothy Dolan of the Archdiocese of New York expressing his remorse by apologizing for this. He also wants to apologize to the parish and everyone else that this has caused scandal to. Father Tonelotto recognizes what has happened, has taken responsibility and apologized for it.

Update I: Father Walter Tonelotto will be holding a prayer vigil of reparation this Saturday (01-30-2010) at Saint James Church for what has occurred at the parish. If you are a parishioner or wish to join in this prayer vigil contact the parish here.

It is unbelievable what happened at this event and the promoter who we know read all about himself for fame knows that as Christians we must forgive him but there are sins that only god can resolve and the descreation of his temple are one of them. God have mercy on his soul and all the fools who were in a place of religious importance for many of us who grew up at this church and have had baptized their children and had funerals for their loved ones from brother, cousins, to mother and father.

What is this generation coming to, only God knows.

Pray not just for St James but for guidance and strength for the parishers who remain here deep in faith.
